Why did you want to be a medical coder?

I have always been interested in the medical field. But I also can be quite squeamish when it comes to actual medical procedures. So I knew I could never become a nurse. I enjoy research and realized with medical coding, I can do both. I can work behind the scenes studying medical records while using research skills to apply correct coding procedures.

How did you choose the OS2 apprentice program?

I had just completed my CPC-A certificate and joined a Facebook group called Jobs for American Medical Coders. I heard nothing but wonderful things about the OS2 apprentice program, so I decided to give it a shot. And I am glad I did!

What are you happiest doing when you’re not coding

When I am not reading medical records, I enjoy reading books in my spare time. (What is that?) I also enjoy spending time with my three granddaughters.

What three words best describe you?

I am dependable, I persevere and do not give up easily. I enjoy learning new things.

Where are you located (City/State)?

Corpus Christi/Texas.

Share your hidden talent.

I can name the year a movie came out, even though I can’t remember what the movie is about. I can also remember if I saw that move in a theater or not and who I was with.

What would be your personal motto?

“We may encounter many defeats but we must not be defeated.” ( Maya Angelou).
